About Me

Suryagita Cox
Suryagita trained as a musician and was a founder member of the NZ Youth Choir 1979-82. She has since recorded two albums as a singer-songwriter. She qualified as a teacher of the Alexander Technique in the UK 1996 and now teaches individuals and groups, specialising in voice coaching and singing. She was a member of the Natural Voice Practitioner's Network (UK) and directed a group "Evolution Singers" in Brighton which took part in community singing festivals.

Returning to Wellington in 2008 she has just launched a budding choir "Libero" (meaning "freely" in Italian), singing world music, folk, gospel and her own compositions. She teaches beginners harmony singing skills and works with freeing the body and breath to find the natural voice, and with experienced singers to enhance performance skills.

Suryagita was chairperson of ATTSNZ (NZ Alexander Teachers Society) 2009-12. She has done some training in the Estill Voice Training System, and runs Free Your Voice and chanting workshops in Auckland and Sydney. She has run regional workshops for NEWZATS and teaches at Toi Whakaari (NZ Drama School).

She has a passion for helping people to find their authentic voice, to free their bodies and to experience the joy of music.
